Manchester Science Park names two new directors

Manchester Science Park Ltd (msp ) has named Lynne Barlow as an executive director and Professor Gerry Kelleher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University, as a non-executive director.

Professor Kelleher was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in August 2008, with responsibility for strategic planning, research and enterprise.

He subsequently joined msp ’s Board of Directors in October following the retirement of MMU’s previous representative, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barry Plumb.

Prior to his appointment at MMU, Professor Kelleher was Pro Vice-Chancellor at Liverpool John Moores University. He was also a member of the group that developed Liverpool Science Park and, until August, was a Director of Liverpool Science Park.

A Chartered Accountant, Lynne Barlow joined msp in November 2007 as Commercial Manager with responsibility for finance, tenancy contracts and estates at the award-winning Science Park.

Although a private company, the majority of msp ’s 17-strong Board of Directors are non-executive with msp CEO Jane Davies the sole executive director until Ms Barlow’s promotion to Commercial Director in October.

Welcoming the new directors, Ms Davies said Professor Kelleher’s appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor underlines Manchester Metropolitan University’s commitment to research, innovation and the knowledge economy.

She stated: “In addition to representing MMU, Professor Kelleher brings to the msp board his valuable experience in the world of business, having spent nearly 10 years in the private sector both in the UK and the Netherlands.”

Ms Davies described the appointment of Lynne Barlow as the Science Park’s second executive director as recognition of msp ’s ambitions to increase its contribution to the city region’s economy in the future. 

“Since joining the company less than a year ago, Lynne’s commitment, knowledge and experience have proven an asset to msp ,” Ms Davies continued. “In her new role as an executive director, we will work together to satisfy our shareholders’ aspirations for the company.”
